ABC Adds Four Pilots to Comedy Slate Four more comedy pilots -- three of which have some variation on the "Odd Couple" premise -- have received the green light from ABC.
The new orders make at least seven comedies in the works for the network next season, along with a dozen dramas. Among the mismatched-pairs comedies is an untitled project from writer Tom Hertz ("Spin City," "Dennis Miller Live") that's based in part on his own life, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's about a rather shy New Yorker whose wife comes from a big, boisterous family from Kansas.
Also in that vein are "Hope and Faith," about a housewife whose soap-opera star sister moves in with her, from writer Joanna Johnson; and an untitled project that calls to mind "The Birdcage."
The latter follows a man whose parents are very conservative and his girlfriend, the daughter of a gay couple. It was written by Ann Flett-Giordano and Chuck Ranberg ("Frasier," "Encore! Encore!"), who are executive producing with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. The fourth pickup is called "My Life with Men," about a woman who takes care of her husband, father and four sons. Denise Moss and Sy Dukane ("The Gregory Hines Show," "Roseanne") wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Nena Rodrigue. Related Shows
